The campaign is an initiative of the The US Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA). Its main goal is to improve road safety through proper care and maintenance of tires. The main slogan of the campaign is “Check your tires.” It addresses absolutely all drivers, including truckers.
Before, this annual event was postponed due to COVID-19.
The event encourages drivers to pay attention to the fact that tires play a critical role in ensuring safe driving and provides the following practical recommendations as part of the campaign:
Inflate – Tire pressure needs to be checked monthly, especially before long trips or when carrying an extra load, using a tire pressure gauge.
Rotate – by the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations or every 5000-7000 miles. This simple recommendation prevents uneven tire wear.
Evaluate – check the tread depth to see if their tires have sufficient grip. This can be done with one penny. Insert a penny into the groove in the tread so that Abraham Lincoln is going in headfirst. If Lincoln’s head is fully visible in multiple tracks, new tires must be purchased.
That this event is quite relevant today – according to the Harris Poll social survey, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, most Americans plan to use their cars for long journeys, as they consider them as the safest way to travel.
The US Tire Manufacturers Association itself is the national trade association of US tire manufacturers. It is made up of 13 companies that own 56 tire manufacturing facilities in 17 states. USTMA’s activities are related to the safety of workers and consumers, as well as environmental protection. They try to achieve it by continually improving the characteristics of their products and conducting such events.
