In July, FMCSA expanded and modified the emergency declaration No. 2020-002. The declaration applies to all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Previously, the declaration was set to expire on August 15, 2020. But it will be active till September 14, 2020.
Such actions are necessary for emergency assistance providing. The modified declaration provides regulatory relief for motor carriers and drivers that provide direct assistance in support of COVID-19 assistance efforts, in which immediate transportation of essential supplies.
The Extension provides support to drivers who assist in the virus-related emergencies, and is limited to transport:
- Cattle and livestock feed;
- Medicines and medical equipment related to the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19;
- Materials necessary to ensure safety and sanitation for prevention of the transmission of COVID-19 in the community, such as masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, soap, and disinfectant;
- Groceries (food, paper products, and others) for emergency restocking of stores and other distribution centers.
